Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy is an arts and cultural organization dedicated to supporting the creative, educational and vocational development of youth and families of African descent in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Ifetayo was born in the spring of 1989 as a six week series of free modern dance classes for 50 students. It has since grown to encompass six integrated programs that serve over 2,000 students annually through on-site academic, literacy, performance, cultural heritage and martial & visual arts classes. The 10,000 square foot space is organized around the central Mbongi, modeled after a traditional African village community space. Access to the surrounding classrooms, art & dance studios, offices and café occurs through the Mbongi which sits as a central glass box visible from throughout the facility. A truly flexible space, markets, lounging and performances invite the all with aim of fostering learning and pride.
